Juneteenth Celebration Downtown

Juneteenth Celebration Downtown

Join us on June 19 for a special Juneteenth Celebration honoring the life and legacy of Biddy Mason (1818–1891), one of Los Angeles’ most influential early civic leaders, philanthropists, and Black landowners.

Born into slavery, Biddy Mason secured her freedom and went on to become a successful entrepreneur, landowner, nurse, philanthropist, and community builder. Her extraordinary journey helped shape Los Angeles and continues to inspire generations today.

“From enslaved to landowner. From survivor to philanthropist. Her legacy lives in every block of this city.”

This special community gathering will celebrate freedom, resilience, and the remarkable life and legacy of Biddy Mason through fellowship, reflection, and community engagement.
